Biography All About Ballroom Dances
|
 Mabel & Orlando are originally from Havana, Cuba. Nicknamed Caribbean's Pearl for being a picturesque country where people love to dance. Mabel
started her dance training at the age of five at the Institute of the
Dances in Cuba, where she learned many Latin rhythms like Salsa, Mambo,
Cha Cha, Rumba, Merengue, Samba, as well as other international dances
such as Flamenco, Jazz, Oriental dances (Belly dance), and Ballet. By
the age of 14, she was performing in theatres in her country. While
Mabel was studying at the University of Havana in order to finish her
studies as a Computer Engineer, she was very enthusiastic on the
developing of her dancing skills as a real dancer. She won her first
Cuban Salsa Competition in September of 2000. Mabel is a talented and
accomplished instructor in the dance world today. She is also a certified fitness instructor who works at the prestigious Canadian GoodLife Fitness Club, where she teaches Aqua Fitness and also Body Jam, a cardio workout where the participants are free to enjoy the sensation of dance through an addictive fusion of the latest dance moves and hottest new sounds. Orlando discovered his passion for dancing when he was 8 years old. He learned all the Latin dances and began his career at the Superior Institute of Dance and Art in Cuba. He has been performing, teaching, choreographing and competing since 1986. He has an extensive dance background consisting of Salsa, Merengue, Rumba, Cumbia, Cha Cha Samba and Modern Dance. He was awarded first place in 6 Salsa competitions during the last ten years he was living in Cuba. After moving to Canada in 2001, they have been very active in teaching and promoting different dances in our city. Currently they own a dance studio where they offer classes for children, teenagers and adults of different levels. They teach various Ballroom, Latin dances and Mabel teaches Belly dance for women of all ages. Their company also produces high-quality instructional dance DVDs. Mabel and Orlando have performed in our city, for different Galas hosted by the Capitol Centre, Nippissing University, the Red Cross, Sears, DIA, fundraising events, etc.
